Space 103 is a small office/ studio space located on Level 1 of Salamanca Arts Centre. This space has charming heritage features including limewashed stone walls, exposed wooden beams, and a (non-functional) fireplace. The timber windows overlook Salamanca Place and let in lots of natural light.

The main entrance is via the stairs on Salamanca Place, but there is level access from the Lift located in the Salamanca Arts Centre Courtyard.

Space 104 has multiple power points, and an NBN connection. A shared kitchenette / common area (with sink) is available for use.

All Salamanca Arts Centre Spaces are working Spaces only; they are not residential in nature.

Apply for Space 103

Space 103 is most suitable as an office space or studio space for arts-based businesses, digital design, audio design if headphones are used, or as administration or production base for other arts disciplines. Salamanca Arts Centre is currently seeking applications from Artists and Arts Organisations for Space 103.

Salamanca Arts Centre is a vibrant arts community located at Hobart’s Salamanca Place, close to Hobart’s waterfront and a short walk from the city’s central business district.

Within the Arts Centre, there are four different categories of Space available for longer-term lease. Lease terms generally range from one to five years, depending on the type of Space. Rental is based on both the size of the space (m2) and the type of Space. Select a type of Space below for more information:

Long Term Studios

Applications are now open for longer-term studios at Salamanca Arts Centre. The studios on offer range in size and price, and you can read more about their specifics via the links below.

Applications are open now and close on Friday 9 May 2025.

- Space 119B
- Space 126

Short Term Studio

Applications for the Short Term Studio open in September / October annually, for Residencies the following year. Second round applications for any remaining dates open in December/January.

Artists can sign up to receive notification when Short Term Studio applications open, including Special / Quick Response Rounds (as a result of cancellations etc.) through the Studio Alert List.

Applying for Spaces

Applications for longer-term leases open when a Space becomes available. SAC's application process is now fully online. Please see above for the Studio Spaces currently available and to submit an application for tenancy.

If you are seeking something different to what is currently available, you can sign up to receive notification of future Application Rounds for Retail, Workshop, Studio or Office spaces. You will be contacted once the next Call for Applications opens.

Space 119B is a medium sized Space located on Level 1 of Salamanca Arts Centre. This Space is located in the Stanmore Building and overlooks the Salamanca Square and Wooby's Lane. Access is via stairs from the SAC Courtyard or Wooby's Lane.

Space 119B is carpeted, with both plaster walls and limewashed stone walls. There are exposed industrial beams, leadlight glass windows, as well as overhead heating and an overhead fan. A kitchenette / common area is shared among just three studios in this part of the building.

Like all SAC Spaces, 119B has an NBN connection (internet connection is tenant's responsibility) and multiple powerpoints. Space 119B has been used as both administration/office space and studio/art space in the past.

All Salamanca Arts Centre Spaces are working Spaces only; they are not residential in nature.

Space 104 is a medium sized Space located on Level 1 of Salamanca Arts Centre. The main entrance is via the stairs on Salamanca Place, but there is level access from the Lift located in the Salamanca Arts Centre Courtyard.

The Space is carpeted, with walls consisting of limewashed stone, brick and plaster. There are exposed heritage wooden beams and lots of natural light from the barn-style doors and windows overlooking Salamanca Place.

Space 104 has multiple power points, and an NBN connection. A shared kitchenette / common area (with sink) is available for use.

All Salamanca Arts Centre Spaces are working Spaces only; they are not residential in nature.

Space 104 is most suitable as an office space or studio space for arts-based administration or dry practice. Due to the facilities available, digital design, audio design (with headphones), or similar practices preferred.

Space 126 is a working studio located on Level 1 of the Salamanca Arts Centre, overlooking the Salamanca Arts Centre Courtyard.

Space 126 has natural and fluorescent light, plaster and heritage stone walls, and carpet. It has multiple powerpoints and is NBN ready.

Entry is via the stairs from Woobys Lane or the Salamanca Arts Centre Courtyard. Unfortunately this Space does not currently have level access, and can only be accessed via stairs.

A shared kitchenette / common area (with sink) is available for the Willis Studios.

Applications are sought from artists working in any medium. As a smaller Studio, this Space may appeal in particular to writers, graphic designers, or other arts practitioners seeking desk space.

Salamanca Arts Centre is currently seeking applications for inclusion in the 2026 Calendar for the following Venues:

Peacock Theatre
Salamanca Arts Centre's unique and intimate theatre is an end-stage performance space that has been created at the foot of a historic quarry.

Long Gallery
Salamanca Arts Centre’s largest exhibition space is ideal for large touring or Group Exhibitions - or solo exhibitions by professional artists. Private functions can also take place is this venue. 
+ Remaining Dates in 2025 (20 August + 8 September 2025)

SOCIAL
Salamanca Arts Centre's newest space, located on the Ground Floor with entry via Salamanca Place. Perfect for solo artists and small group exhibitions. 

Sidespace Gallery
A professional exhibition space that is accessible and affordable for solo artists and small group exhibitions. 
+ Remaining Dates in 2025 (15 October – 10 November 2025)

Top Gallery
An exhibition space dedicated to showcasing the works of emerging artists, that is both accessible and affordable. Available for month-long Hire Periods.

Lightbox
Whilst it may be the smallest Venue at Salamanca Arts Centre , the Lightbox has the most visibility due to the location on Salamanca Place. Viewable 24/7, the Lightbox is suitable for small-scale installation, sculpture, jewellery and textile and is free for month-long Hire Periods.

Apply for 2025 SAC Associate Membership

Associate Membership of the Salamanca Arts Centre is by application and is open to any individual who supports the vision, aims and activities of Salamanca Arts Centre. As an Associate Member of Salamanca Arts Centre you will be supporting one of Tasmania’s foremost cultural organisations.

Associate Membership is an annual membership, spanning 1 January – 31 December each year.

Associate Membership is required to be eligible to exhibit in SAC’s Access Gallery Program (includes Sidespace GalleryTop Gallery and Lightbox). Exhibiting artists must have valid Associate Membership at the time of their exhibition; Associate Membership is not required when applying to exhibit.
